After studying at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Risk lived and worked in Berlin for eleven years. They showed work at many international galleries and art fairs until deciding in 2010 to no longer participate in commercial art contexts. In that same year Risk started lecturing at different art academies and from 2015 until 2023 they tutored in the Art & Research department and the Arts & Humanity programme at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda.
At the end of 2020 Risk completed the Advanced Master of Research in Art & Design at St. Lucas School of Arts Antwerp and attended the 2020 and 2021 edition of the María Lugones Decolonial Summer School. Subsequently, they started as a researcher at the Biobased Research Group of Caradt where, as of June 2023, Risk is engaged in their Professional Doctorate titled: ‘Unlearning Photography – Listening to Cyanobacteria’.
